French Yellow Opaline Glass Jewelry Casket with Angel Ormolu Mounts

$2,100.00
The catalog card

An exceptionally rare and highly collectible mid-to-late 19th-century French opaline glass jewelry casket box, dating believed to be to circa 1850–1880. This exquisite vanity piece showcases a vibrant, opaque lemon yellow body. The single rarest and most coveted color in antique French glassmaking. The exterior boasts a glossy, fiery yellow hue, while the interior is cased in a clean, milky-white opaline layer.

The box is entirely hand-blown by master craftsmen, evidenced by its smooth, substantial weight and a lack of any seams in the glass. The glass is securely housed within its original, heavy gilt-brass (or bronze) ormolu framing.

Setting this particular casket apart from standard antique boxes are the three highly detailed, figural gold angels or cherubs beautifully integrated into all four sides of the mount. The scalloped decorative trim adds a regal, classic French aesthetic. A truly rare and beautiful collectors piece.

Measures approximately 5 1/4” long x 3 5/8” wide x 4 3/4” tall.
